    Subaru Levorg 2014-

The Subaru Levorg is a mid-size car manufactured since 2014 by Fuji Heavy Industries and sold under the Subaru brand. According to Subaru, the name Levorg is a combination of three words, LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG The Levorg shares its platform with the Impreza, and the Legacy.

    History

The Levorg was first shown as a pre-production concept car at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show in November 2013. Subaru began collecting orders on the Japanese market in January 2014, and the car went on sale in May. In February 2015 Subaru announced the introduction of the Levorg on the European market, and the car made its premiére on the continent at the Geneva Motor Show in March of the same year.

    Specifications

On the domestic Japanese market the Levorg is available with two DOHC flat-four petrol engines, both turbocharged, intercooled and direct injected: a 170 PS (125 kW), 250 N·m (184 lbf·ft) FB16 1.6 L and a 296 PS (218 kW), 400 N·m (295 lbf·ft) FA20 2.0 L. The two are coupled to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and four-wheel-drive.

Yes Subaru's bonnet scoops are usually (always?) functional, as they have a top mounted intercooler.

Functional or not, Subaru's top-mounts are usually pretty ugly though I'm sure it helps with packaging and whatnot. It is also interesting that a good number of the latter-day ('80s) Eastern-Bloc cars seemed to have hood scoops. One would assume that all these vehicles are woefully-underpowered and would not see many gains from a cold-air intake, much less an intercooler. Perhaps it was for crossing shallow streams or large puddles? Does anyone have any insight into that?

Can you give more specific example?

I can't remember any Soviet era vehicle with a bonnet scoop.

FSO Polonez, Skoda 120 (and derivatives), Yugo (and possibly other Zastavas), etc...

Going back and looking at pictures of these cars, and considering that the Skodas are rear-engined, this was a half-baked thought. It is fairly-obvious to me now that these 'hood scoops' are actually intake vents for the HVAC system, most likely to get higher airflow at speed than a cowl-mounted intake could provide. This would help compensate for fact that these vehicles lacked air conditioning.

This should have been obvious to me as Saab 900s, like mine, have an offset hood-mounted intake for the HVAC system. It, however, is flush because it does not need the ram effect to compensate as it has A/C.

Is this more Legacy/Liberty sized or WRX/STI sized? The front clip totally looks like a WRX.

Just call it a WRX wagon and call it a day. Sell it here, and ditch the CVT while you're at it.

Well, the Impreza saloon is 4580mm long, the Levorg 4690mm and the Legacy saloon is 4755mm long.

The wheelbase is closer to the Impreza (although slightly longer).

    2020 Subaru Levorg 2.0i

Updated EU-spec Levorg is now more unconventional than ever. Because the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine could not pass Euro 6d-Temp emissions test, Subaru replaced it with old-fashioned 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine. That engine format is a true relict in today's European market.

The tamer model will also get a more comfortable suspension, because according to Subaru: “The combination of that turbo engine and the firm suspension has been a real turn-off for customers.”

Worse still, scoop has disappeared from the bonnet and CVT remains as the only gearbox choice.

    Price: €34.990,-
    Engine: 1995 cc flat-4
    Power: 110 kW @ 6200 rpm
    Torque: 198 Nm @ 4200 rpm
    Kerb weight: 1545 kg
    Top speed: 195 kph
    0-100 kph: 13,0 sec
