    Hi all

I think the first car to go over 300km/h was the 1936 Mercedes-Benz W25 Record which reached 372km/h, Mercedes has made 3 attempts they were 1937 Mercedes-Benz W25 Avus Streamline which reached 362km/h and 1939 Mercedes-Benz W154 Record which reached 400km/h

oh ye also the 1938 Mercedes-Benz W125 Record which reached 433km/h, before getting caught by a gust of wind, the cars body was literally torn off, the driver Bernd Rosemeyer was killed that four attempts.

I think Rosemeyer was driving an Auto Union when he was killed.

In my opinion the first production car which broke the 300km/h fence should be between the Porsche 959 and the Ferrari GTO(based on the 308) which both cars were launched almost in the same time fulfilling the same rules(Group B), and were designed initially for the same purpose(rallying) although both of the projects were aborted before setting the cars up for rallying, and I think that the Ferrari was launched in the market a bit earlier than the porsche....I guess that Ferrari did launch the GTO in the first middle of 1985, whereas Porsche launched the car in the second middle of that year, so therefore the Ferrari GTO must be the first car which broke the maximum limit of 300km/h

On the other hand, before 1985, although the Lamborghini Countach has always had the top speed higher than the 512iBB, and its substitute, the Ferrari Testarossa, I would bet that the Countach has never reached the 300km/h in the required conditions in order to be homologated a high speed in a car, although that car has reached the 295km/h, whereas the maximum speed of the 512iBB and the Testarossa was about 290km/h

Hello, I look for photos of the Italian driver Luigi Fagioli that in the years 1934 to 1937 he ran with the Mercedes type W25 and the Auto Union. Want to know the characteristics of these cars.

I have no idea which car was first to top 300km/h, but if I was to guess I'd say 1976' Lambo LP400.

The first production car to reach 300km/h was the 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO with a top speed of 304km/h.

then why is the LP400 listed on this site as having a top speed of 316km/h?
however i do know that the 1987 F40 was the first production car to top 200mph but this is very well known and well documented.

AFAIK it could only do 180mph (290km/h).

It's a well known fact that manufacturers cheated a lot when they talked of top speeds. Cars supplied to the press to test were often seriously tweaked or lightened to enable them to go far faster than production models. The E type for instance; it has a "top speed" of 250kph but that car was tried with several engines, had alloy body panels and was nothing like a standard car which can manage in reality 230kph maximum. I haven't researched but I'd probably go with the 288GTO although is that really a production car? I suppose so since 272 were made unlike the 250 GTO of which just 39 were made. But, if you take that as a definition then the Jaguar D type almost made that speed in 1955 at Le Mans - but not quite!

I think the first street legal car to reach 300 was the the porsche 911 S the first race car tp do 300 im gusing was a ferrari, im not sure though. for you lambroghini lovers out thier, sorry to crush your dreams but a lambroghini is definetly not a option. the first lambro to go over 300 was the countach in the late 1980s the 911 S came out in 1974. a shelby also could of been it but still im not sure

I read in an article that the "Rote sau" Merc 109 300SEL 6,3 racer was the first production car that clipped the 300kph mark. Although modified extensively it was still a production car.
The same car was used for aviation tyre testing because of the huge acceleration and topspeed.
