I'd admit that the wrong after market exhaust could make them sound pretty bad however.
Either way they took a lot of punishment and seem to go forever.

You had the only reliable SR20 in the world.

I should know. I had two.
    And they both sucked.
I still loved the engine even though it was unreliable.

Here in NZ, the NZ-new N14s were called Sentras (4 and 5-doors) and Pulsars (3-doors). We have a lot of Jap-import 3-door Pulsars (quite a few GTi-Rs here) or 5-door Sunnys, but no imported 4-doors.

In 92, Nissan NZ ran a celebrity challange called the Nissan GT Cup. They took NZ-new 4-door GA16DE Sentras, slightly modified them, then let the celebrities loose on the track. From 93-94, the series was more up-and-coming drivers (like a young Scott Dixon) or past-their-prime drivers.

The yellow Sentra in the photos is an ex-GT Cup car than has had an SR20DE transplant. The white car is one which has been converted back into a road car

The pix in this post are of my race car: an ex-GT Cup car that still has the original GA16DE in it. The first three pix are from the old Log Book of its various liveries over the years, and the last two are how it looked when I bought it. I don't have any current pix available to post

And finally, here are some pictures I found of various Sabres raced in the South African Touring Car Championship in the early 90s. They, like most countries at the time, were running to Super Touring Car rules. Nissan at first went with the Sabre, but later changed to the Primera, as run in most other championships (like here in NZ)

Great first-person details and photos ReCon... welcome to UCP! Do you have any interest in taking your ex-cup car back to the track?

Thanks csl177. When I bought the car, it hadn't been used for a couple of years, but was in a running condition. I've since fully serviced it, installed the required parts to pass scrutineering (new harnesses.etc), repainted it white and applied for a new Log Book. Hopefully everyone gets back from Christmas soon and sends me my Log Book as my first planned event is a hillclimb on 31 Jan. I'm hoping to participate in atleast a dozen events this year (hillclimbs, bent sprints, track races).

on the contrary , you had an unreliable SR20

ive been an owner of many nissans, & owned a couple of SR18 & SR20 engined models. they are good strong 4 cylinder engines capable of maintaining excellent reliability at 100 hp/Liter NA

they do require regular oil changes, because the cam oilers can clog eaisly with dirty oil - apart from that they are one of the best 1990's jap 4-pots

    .

edit : it should be noted that the N14 had great handeling for a FWD when sorted - as in like a go-kart

the N15 model however was horrible
