    - '66-'71 Mopar 426-Hemi (As Bobby Issac says... "Now the Hemi may idle like a coffee can full of rocks and it may need a wrench applied to it a little more often then usual [because of its solid valve lifters]. On the other hand, as far as acceleration is concerned, the Hemi turns on where the others shut off.")

On the subject of horsepower, there was a very good article in a muscle car magazine about the actual horsepower most of the '60s muscle car engines put out.
All muscle car guys know that many of those engines put out more than the "advertised" rating. For instance, both the 390 and 428 Ford engines were rated at "335" horsepower! The 428 was actually making around 410 hp. The 426 Hemi made more like 470 instead of 425 (425 sounds better to the insurance company than 470).
Below is a chart from that article showing "fudged" engines (rated lower than actual) and correctly-rated engines:

smart dude...thats my pic too. but if i have to pick one on the list the 429 then is my choice. the LS6 is good and the hemi is over rated but the 429 is forgotten about a lot and they kick ass so i choose that one. the 428 is a good one too (but maybe its just cuz thats the motor i have in the ol shelb)

I pick the big ol' 454 LS6. It makes me really wish that my dad had kept his Chevelle.
