4 Gran Coupe, hmm, so basically this is a 3-series sedan with a lowered rear roof.
The next step will be a 4-series Shooting-brake, because a 3 series Touring is to big?

Little details aside, it's a curious trend, this.

Now that all generalist manufacturers are abandoning the large hatchback/liftback, BMW has three (this, 3GT, 5GT) and Audi has two (A5 SB, A7 SB).

I am still way too annoyed by the odd ball model line of BMWs of late....

At the end of the day if I am shopping for something in that bracket it'll still be a 3 sedan or a 3 wagon....

Could you get a rear window wiper on this one, seeing it is a liftback. And how does this 4 series gran coupe compare to the 3 gt?
I'm asking this because I've recently seen a dutch road test between a 3 sedan and a 4 coupe, and apart from the body style he couldn't find many differences.

Well, actually, the 3GT is the one that brings something different to the table (other than slightly confused styling), since it is built on longer wheel base chassis of the CNDM 3 Series LWB saloon.

Objectively, there's no point for this. There is nothing this car can do that isn't already done by any other of the 3/4 Series variants.

However, this a triumph of style. It is the Dalí of cars.

    I like it.

I'm not even sure I could tell this apart from the 3-series if I saw it on the road. The 6-series Gran Turismo is at least different to the 5-series.

They've taken the 2-door version of a 4-door car, then made a 4-door version from it. And they're back where they started and no one seems to realize.

    I agree.

I think they should have called the sedan and coupe versions the 3 series and just call the squashed sedan the 4 series.

They're running out of numbers fast, so pretty soon they'll call the 3 series touring (if they make one) the 3.5 series.

It seems like the 4 series coupe even uses the same rear tail lights. I feel like they're all looking the same now, somewhat like Aston Martin.

    3GT or 4GC

I don´t really get the difference between the 3GT and the 4GC. They look almost alike...

For sure in terms of style the 4 GC is nothing compared to the 6GC which could never be mistaken for a 5GT.

Or if they want to stay with integers, go with double digits....

The 3GT is longer and taller than the 4GC. The 3GT is based on the LWB 3 series that's sold in China, for one thing. The 4GC is much closer to the reg'lur 3 Sedan than the 3GT, just a little lower, a little curvier and a little more taught to drive.

The 4GC may be lower, curvier and even more pretty than the 3 sedan. It will also be heavier!

Hatchback maybe? And extra center console in the back?

It is also maginally longer and wider, and I'm sure the frameless doors aren't light either.

    It's 80kgs heavier. A 428i takes 0.2 seconds longer to go from 0-60 mph than a 328i apparently.
