But every normal person (not spotty teenager) thinks about the M3 when you ask them about a famous early 90s german sports saloon.

So you'd rather pick the spotty teenager's german saloon, over a normal enthusiast's pick?

Love them both but it'd have to be the M3 simply because it has been top of my dream car list forever.

I don't know what the 190E has going for it over the M3. The M3 is lighter, is a coupe, has similar power, looks better, probably handles better and is regarded as one of the greatest cars ever.

The 190E has a stupid rear wing and ridiculous fender flares.

It's the Jaguar XJ to the BMW 7-series. Or the Maserati Gransport to the Porsche 911. That's the appeal for me.

    Altough I'd rather have a normal 2.5-16.

So in all manners worse but somehow appealing to you?

    I kid.

EDIT: You think an XJ or Gransport would have a rear wing that egregious? And yes I know this is besides the point, but from a stylistic point of view, the Benz is over the top, while the XJ and Maser are understated and sublime.

    That's why I prefer the standard 2.5-16.

The Mercedes is kind of a sleeper car, which is cool, but I'll take the M3

Probably handles better??!! Have you ever driven a 190E before??? The only thing that handles better than a 190E is the worlds fastest subway train.

And that "stupid rear wing" you're talking was wind tunnel tested to reduce drag to 0.29 while at the same time increasing downforce. And anyone who ever heard the two words aerodynamics and motorsport in the same sentence will know that a balance like that increases performance.

Period anecdotes tell of a BMW executive who was quoted as saying "if that rear wing works, we'll have to redesign our wind tunnel." The anecdote claims that BMW did. wikipedia.org

And by the way...the Mercedes 190E Evo II is also regarded as one of the greatest cars ever. Its sad to see how people out there still think the M3's was superior to the 190E's.

Go do some homework next time before insulting the 190E's superior engineering.

If it's regarded as one of the best cars ever, why do people think the M3 is superior?

Its a matter of opinion and taste.

There was a time when these cars were considered equals, I dont understand why it cant be the same today.
