uh, the original TT had transverse engine AND AWD.......just not the traditional quattro layout with a Torsen centerdiff. I believe it was a Haldex system. Which is why Volvo AWD uses(which were all transversely mounted and AWD, including transversely mounted inline 6s I believe)...

I think some Audi has a a transverse engine and it's fwd, like entry levels of the V6 versions.

I think all tranverse engined V6 Audis are four wheel drive, however 4 cyl version are available with front wheel drive. There are front wheel drive versions of longitudinal engined V6 Audis though.
And by the way, the list of manufacturers that use (or have used) four wheel drive systems in tranverse engined cars is pretty huge. Alfa Romeo, Audi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroën, Daihatsu, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Lancia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Suzuki, Toyota, Volvo or Volkswagen. And I'm sure I'm still missing some.

Is it still speculation that it's an I5 or is this confirmed? I've read that the B8 S4's 3L supercharged V6 could be used.
If it's the I5, I would suppose it's based on the Audi/Lambo V10 - how hard would it be to change the V into an I? Do you guys think it would just be cheaper to use the 3L V6?
Why not turbocharge the VR6 already used?
cutting a V into a I is quite simple, you only need to balance the inertia forces generated by the engine. AFAIK, an I5 isn't very naturally balanced though, as an I6 for example. but for sure, it's cheaper to use the V6 since it's already exists. are we sure the new S4 V6 isn't just a R36 V6 turbocharged? never think about it.

UCP have pages for S4 Avant and Sedan already.....3.0V6 supercharged.....interesting progression of that model I have to say....V6TT to V8 to now a supercharged V6....

Does anyone know what that disguised car near the end of the video was?

The 3 litre supercharged V6 probably won't fit under the TT's bonnet. Unlike the narrow V VR6 engine this is a 90º V engine not designed to fit in tranverse engined cars.
The inline 5 engine almost surely will be a forced induction version of the 2.5 litre unit found in USDM Rabbits and Jettas. It is losely related to the Audi V10 engine.
