Isn't that just a Lexus grille with a Renault badge?

    This is SO boring.

I get understatement, but this says nothing at all.

Alternatively they could have borrowed an Infiniti, looks about as equally boring as this one.

I miss the Avantime and Vel Satis...

Well, they decided to borrow a Samsung instead.

They say it's due for an European introduction, but I'm guessing it's not destined for western Europe since it wouldn't sell at all.

This won't work... in my opinion, Renault should simply stay out of the luxury segment. They simply haven't the reputation to sell luxury cars.

I disagree, this is boring and looks to be from mid-decade.
I would say Renault's current line is better looking than any of the other French manufacturers (because Citroen is falling prey to styling bloat and Peugeot is Peugeot) and overall better than anything from the German three. They are very contemporary looking, with a little quirky French flair differentiating them from, say, Audi's contemporary but very boring looks (and Renault doesn't have The Grille).

Peugeot has the RCZ and Citroën the C6.

However Renault has the Laguna Coupe.

Everything else at Peugeot looks awful, and everything else at Citroën and Renault isn't ugly but not terribly exciting, interesting or beautiful.

The C6 is good because it hasn't changed its looks yet.

At Renault, for me, the better looking cars are the Clio and Megane. The Clio is refreshingly simple and the Megane is quite sexy, despite being a little lumpy.

I think that both Citroën and Renault have ze Chermans easily beat, stylistically.

EDIT: Monty-Python-and-the-Holy-Grail-Intro-Credits quantities of sacking need to go on in the Peugeot design department. While the RCZ is nice I struggle to remember any Peugeot from the last decade that was good looking. Maybe there is one, but Pug is one of those brands that I never really cared to look up.

Well, in my opinion Renault has come back to designing cars which while they may not be utterly beautiful, they are not offensive to the eye. After the Megane and Vel Satis experiments this is indeed a welcome move, but it doesn't qualify them as a maker of stylish cars (Laguna Coupe excepted as I said). And the facelift ruined the Clio for me and the Megane Coupe's silver front looks vulgar.

Citroën seems to be developing a bit of a split personality these days. Their C-models are becoming more and more boring as time goes by. It could be argued that they are becoming a bit german, and that's not a good thing. The C6 remains utterly stunning, but that's because it's a generation behind. And then DS-models seem to be overdesigned to me, they are to busy, too many lines going on. I have to say, I'm not a fan of the DS3's design and we'll se how the others turn out.

And finally Peugeot, which used to make beautiful cars but has beaten all of them and RCZ's front with the ugly stick. I like the RCZ a lot though. If you forget what's in front of the A-pillar it's a pretty stunning car. I love it because it seems to have no purpose other than itself. As for recent good loking Pugs, the 406 family wasn't bad, and the 406 Coupe was a masterpiece, altough a Pininfarina one.

As for the Germans, Audis are for the most part very hansome, and Mercs aren't bad either in general. BMW is far more problematic, but they seem to be coming back to restrained and well executed design, and there are still some jewels in their line up, like the 3er Coupé.

Ferrer, please stop it. You could at least have a other opinion then me.
Because this way I can only say that I almost totally agree with you about French and German cars.

The only point I don't share is that I just adore the looks of the Renault Avantime. But that was not actually a Renault. And the Vel Satis and megane that followed were not that bad. The had their one style, something that couldn't be said about this SM5/Latitude.
