Nearest test centre is 60 miles away on roads just like that
On Google Earth put in directions from Applecross to Gairloch and then zoom in on the roads marked
The road running alongsside Loch Torridon is really fantastic, twisty, undulating along the edge of the loch

The big problem they have in the highlands is the test centre being able to do things like roundabouts, traffic lights and dual carriageway !!!

145+mph in a 99 WS6 T/A I owned a few years ago. They were extending part of the freeway in town and I managed to sneak on to it the day before it "officially" opened. All that fresh black-top was just askin for it.

260 KPH in both a 2007 Mercedes C200 Kompressor on one of the autobahn roads and the same speed on the straight of the Nurburgring on a 2007 Golf V GTi
I am easily satisfied with the very best.

I've gotten 3 of my old cars to about 140 MPH, a 1990 Saab 900 Turbo, a 1994 Jaguar XJ-6 (actually, that only went about 135) and a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante, that when I hit about 140, a big plastic piece of body molding flew off the side and went into the ditch. I recovered it the next day. I don't really drive like that anymore, though. It's dangerous on windy 2-lane Alaskan roads.

That above post is supposed to say Saab 9000 Turbo, not 900. I've never gotten a 900 over 120.

BMW has an annual charity known as the Ultimate Drive in which you're allowed to drive current models and they donate to charity for your mileage... I've gone to this event 4 times (since turning 21 and being able to partake.)

In 2005 I had a 545i up to 135mph. This year's driving route was about half as long and entirely in a section of Interstate under construction, so I had no chance to open the really open the cars up. I drove a manual Z4 3.0si, 135i droptop, 335i coupe, 650i coupe, and a majestic 760Li. I was really hoping for a bit of room with that one...

The worst part was how they had a Alpina B7 and a new M3 there, and both just sat and sat with no one driving them. The rules have gotten more strict recently due to vehicle damage incidents, and I had just cleared the age 25 tier for the V8 cars this year, but one had to be 30 years old to have a crack at those cars.

Still, it was nice to see a stick car available... they had been pulled in '06 and '07.

For my own vehicles, I've hit Vmax in the manual 1984 BMW 318i I owned... about 106mph or so. Highest speed would be in my current car, a 1993 Cadillac Seville... ran it to 125 mph. This is just with the pushrod 4.9L V8... no Northstar.

My new top speed in the Mazda is 91mph, it'll hit it quite easily on a flat road, still had plenty of puff left considering it's meant to top-out at 103mph, only my nerves stopped me from hitting that...

According to the GPS, 174mph in an LS3 Corvette. With the roof off. A bit noisy.

    102 mph, 1998 Ford Escort.
This thing starts shaking at about ~83mph, so at 100 mph it felt ready to explode.
    Throttle at about 8/10ths.

About 150mph/240km/h in an M3 and a Z4M (not at the same time though ).

And 137mph/220km/h in the 118d. Official top speed is 130mph/210km/h.
