One of the most striking cars launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this month was the DeTomaso P72. Finished in striking metallic red with gold accents, the V12-engined machine was virtually impossible to miss. Based on the Apollo Intensa Emozione, the all-carbon-fibre composite machine is due to be built in a limited run of a maximum of 72 cars.
One of the inspirations for the P72 is the mid-engined DeTomaso P70 built back in 1965. Designed by legendary Shelby designer Peter Brock, it was shown at several events before it was damaged. In more recent years, the unique P70 has been completely rebuilt and will now be offered at the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction next month. Its pre-sale estimate is a hefty $2-3 million, which should be a similar price as the P72 will have.
This morning, Porsche announced the entry-level version of the 992-generation 911 in Coupe and Cabriolet forms. In addition to the completely revised design, the new 911 features a 15hp stronger version of the twin-turbocharged flat six engine. Now good for 385hp, the three-litre unit is mated to an eight-speed PDK automatic gearbox.
