This is a hard one, but the BOJ and Autoxbonne are surely the most memorable

I think i'll give my vote on that one as well. Its not that often anymore we tend to have "discussions" of that sort that are little more than shitfights

    Well, I guess I'm a Landquail fanboy...

    From the Caparo 3G thread.

After so much sacrifice and pious humility, mile 1,001 was kind of like Mardi Gras. It was full-throttle everything, everywhere for the next two weeks, and let me tell you, my neck hurt from the accelerative forces, real bad.

You're just not used to fighting that kind of force acting to pull your head back everyday, and my pain in the neck came at the hand of a car with "only" 300 horsepower.
But once you're used to it, you're used to it, when talking about cars mere p(h)easants like me drive. Getting used to, I don't know, A Gallardo might be another pain in the neck, but It doesn't seem to be scaring anybody away.

What the Caparo adds to the mix is lateral forces. Most cars can't generate much over 1g. I think 1.2g is about the ragged edge for "regular" sportscars on street tires.

Nobody is used to holding their head against three times its weight sideways. Try this out: Take your hand and hold it against your head. Right over the old ear oughta' do it. Now push, you old sumbich! push!

And keep doing it for ten seconds or so. With a helmet on to add even more mass to your gulliver, that'd take some getting used to, but I haven't heard of F1 drivers from any era suffering long-term neck problems, and if they don't, who would?

You didn't do it? that's fine. It'd probably hurt your neck after a while, and why would you want that? But if you'd just forked over damn near seven digits for a Caparo, you'd sure look like a big wuss to the neighbors if you didn't drive it because it hurt your neck.

Where am I going with this... a prancing horse will always be afraid of a raging bull, or a bull on the rag, a ragging bull or something... maybe the other way around, I'm not too clever.

    cheers.

Best thread (contentswise, and there are fortunately more like this, but far too few)
