Good point. DTM has taken the whole idea of racegoing repmobiles a bit too far. When Audi A4s, Mercedes C classes, Audi TTs and Opel Astras are faster than Corvettes, Saleens, Aston DBRS etc. You know something isn't quite right. The reason being, DTM cars shouldn't even be allowed to be named after their roadgoing counterparts whereas GT1 race cars aren't a million miles away from the road going cars.

Maybe an MC12 is quite similar to its race version, but that's not the case with a DB9, a C6 or a Viper.
When a Corvette C6 or an Aston Martin DB9 is as fast as a Maserati MC12, you know something isn't quite right as well.
    They are dieing indeed.

A DBR9 can easily be as fast as a MC12 on a race track when they are both performance restricted by airflow to the engine and an achievable minimum weight.

    What isn't right about that?

    I was talking about a DB9, not a DBR9.
A not really subtle difference to show how even GT cars are that strictly related to their road going counterparts, for better or for worse.

Its a matter of chicken and egg though. Corvette or Aston are build to be a road car. But MC12 was build as a racecar from the start and made into a road car such it can be classified as a "GT" as opposed to a prototype.....but such is the beauty of rule making that they can all race together competitvely....

Some cars aren't really a big step up from the road car to race car, like the MC12. Some even went backwards! The McLaren F1 road car was more powerful and about 40mph faster than the racing car. DTM cars would probably do 2 laps of a given circuit in the time it takes for the entry level road car to do 1 lap. It is just so unrelated.

Even the MC12 is less powerful in racing trim.
