I'd say go with a run-about, really old 1.0 Corsa, something really cheap to run, and then get the Capri to tip-top condition and flog it to a collector, then get as decent a 2.8i as you can afford

Buy a cheap runabout.
Fix up the junker, sell it, buy a 2.8
Or get a nice Audi Coupe Quattro or E30 BMW
I'd run the Capri as a daily driver, much more interesting than some Corsa.
And then if you say that you are going to have money sell the 1.6 and buy a V6.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.
Visca Catalunya!
Extemely sorry for the lack op updates - Internet went off for a bloody week !
Well since last update -
Bought new exhaust and fitted it, mucho quietness now. Mmm.
Remember those horrid rotten parts on the front of the bonnet? If not - her is a reminder.
Now most people would crap theirself at that and go - Aargh, bodyshop! Dont be afraid though !
Unlike most I have seen, I actually cut the rust out totally and took it back to bare metal. This way, rust is totally eliminated. But just incase, some Hammerite Kurust was applied which turns rust to metal in a matter of hours. Good stuff.
I then filled up the "holes" with a small cutting of Glass Fibre, and then got some U-Pol Bodyfiller over the top. I'm used to using U-Pol at work and it's what I'm used to. Costly at just over a tenner for a tub that wont last me much longer!
Mixed the filler with hardner, gold ball of filler to pea size of hardner. This sets in about 15 minutes, after which you can start sanding. Started with 80 grit to remove the largest parts (used quite alot to I could get the perfect shape) - then jumping to 240 for the next stage and then a final going over with some 600 to really smoothen it out.
Only done the far left hand side so far - the remaining two bits are quite a big job and I dont want to be stressing about time over such a job. Still got some final touches to do to the left hand side - looks messy because there isnt a primer coat over it yet.
So we are getting there... It's a long process but god it's worth it
Jesus, no updates for 2 months...
Well, got new Leda suspension all round and runs in 2.8i discs and pads. Still offroad as I have had no time to get it about.
But, I have been offered something quite unbelieveable...
2.8 Injection engine with the Turbo Technics Kit
5 Speed Gearbox with quick-shift and AP Clutch
Full Magnex exhaust system incl. Manifold
2.8i radiator
All for £490. Thats buying it seperately, could knock it down to 450 I reckon.
So, my question is -
Keep as standard
or
Buy my friends 45k mile Fiesta that he wants £650 for, keep the Capri SORN'd, get the engine, stick it in, and maybe get it insured on a very limited Classic policy with a few k miles per year?
last option sounds great!
Andreas Preuninger, Manager of Porsche High Performance Cars: "Grandmas can use paddles. They aren't challenging."
Buy it, BUY IT .... now ..... ( presuming you know the egnine and box are functional )
However, don't pussy-foot around once installed.
Use it, use it , use it.
A few thousand miles a year is only enough to keep the insurance company and tax man happy. For your own enjoyment use it as much as possible and use it to its full .... facny a hillclimb entry ??
"A woman without curves is like a road without bends, you might get to your destination quicker but the ride is boring as hell'
Comes out a running Mk1 in Dorest who is sticking a V8 in his.
No problem buying the engine - only problem is getting it here!
Hillclimb - HELL YES
Go for it!

Righto, back on track now
Needs to be finished soon!!
Rear bumper brakets are off, which has revealed a nice few holes... so theyll be getting fiberglassed and resprayed.
Needs a new radiator so need to take the old one out and doublecheck measurements with the one I have lined up.
Leda suspension (Front and Rear) will also be fitted in the next few weeks.
After this, its getting taken to a local garage owner who I know through rallying, where strut top repair plates will be welded, the boot hinge will be welded, and any other welding that needs done.
Then its MOT time! (Going to be tested at the same garage)
So got all the petrol additives, fiberglass repair kit ordered, going to treat myself to an Air compressor this week aswell.
Updates are ensured
Dejavu indeed
At 2.5k to insure for a year it just was not worth it so sticking with the 1.6 for now.
Seen the wheels I want now, just having a nightmare trying to find them seen a set for £450 brand new NOT including tyres *gulp* !
They are lovely though.
*dribble*
Screw the above!
Starting from a fresh, no more fannying about.
Got a cheap runaround car, and the Capri is getting Cossified!
Full stripdown, Engine out, box out, rear axle out, new engine (Cosworth YB 2.0DOHC Turbo), mated to a Borg Warner T5 box, mated to either a 2.8i Diff/other diff.
Started stripping the interior out today, getting there. Now got a lovely new sofa in my room thanks to the rear seats
Garage is now full of bits need more space!
And before you say "it cant be done!! YB's dont go in Capris !!".. they do
Depending on engine condition, may give it a full rebuild, hoping for a healthy 300bhp output with a bit of mapping.. and no it wont be a daily driver, well... it might be, we'll see!!
:tip of hat to ambitious project:
