I was under the impression that the term originally described a custom built open-topped vehicle which had been specifically customised for shooting parties, wherein people would often shoot while seated in the vehicle. Thus the 'break' aspect referred to no rigid roof pillars to 'break' the swing of the long rifle barrel, as the shooter tracked a moving target. Other features might encompass customised gun stowage, large wicker picnic baskets, and the door tops built flat-topped as a 'shelf' from which to rest the shooter's aim

However after having a quick squiz through the net at some authentic early 1920s examples, I find 'closed style' waggons are included as belonging to the species, so I guess I've been incorrect to confine its definition to a specific body genre

Oh well, you can still learn something interesting every day via UCP

One thing's for sure though about shooting breaks/brakes: 99% of them are bloody ugly, including this Mustang

    True

Awww, c'mon! Some of them... only some... are OK. No, really. They are.

Oh man , I won't even try to count how many times this question has been asked here. (At least twice in the last two weeks ). Here's the answer I posted last year:

Generally, it was a specialized version of a station wagon/estate, which was a carriage used for carrying baggage from railway station to the estate (thus the name ).

Oh, I know lots of good-looking shooting brakes. Or even more.
It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

And the last three pictures were taken a month ago at the 6 hours of Spa at Francorchamps.

(the pictures are marked, but this is such a rare find)
