    Maxima vs GTP

The GTP has a 0-60 of about 6.6 to 6.8 seconds. My Maxima (auto) as of right now it has a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds. I will be getting a y-pipe soon which adds about 18-20 HP. With the y-pipe will I have a chance? How much should my 0-60 time improve?

    Thanks.

I don't think you will, because I doubt you will get that much from modifying the exhaust, and then a fraction of that will actually be adding to the power at the wheels, plus I don't think the power that you actually will get out of it will make that much of a difference in performance.

those maixma's are good cars though. good power makers. what it has either the VG30DE or VQ30DE not too sure. but still. good car good engine. put a bit more money and you'll beat em. intake, exhaust, headers, cams even. it can be done.

If you're fitting a y pipe, that would just improve breathing wouldn't it? That will make it a bit more responsive, but unless you've lightenedthe car it won't make that much difference to your 0-60 time. Should make overtaking a bit snappier though.

Well yes, but the y-pipe adds about 18-20 HP. It has been dyno proven. If you go to maxima.org, the first mods they do there is y-pipe and intake, so that's about 25-30 extra HP.

The Y-pipe by itself will make about 5-10hp at the wheels. To get the most out of the y-pipe, you REALLY do want to get a highflow intake of some sort. Whereas the intake will make about 3-5hp by itself and the y-pipe 5-10hp, the combination has been dyno'd to produce 20hp at the wheels.

Where'd you get it only gets 5-10? Because that's incorrect.

I don't see how you think you can get 30 hp to the wheels just from an intake and exhaust.

On one website this guy dynoes his maxima before the y-pipe and after, and he had an 18HP increase. I don't know maybe on maxima.org that's some sort of different y-pipe, the warpspeed that I might get has an increase of 18-20HP. I don't know, maybe my mistake. Do you know how much the y-pipe shaves off the 0-60 time? Maybe an average?

"The Cattman Y-pipe for the 1995 and later Nissan Maxima and Infiniti I30 is designed for use in racing applications only and is not intended for use on public streets or highways. However, in the course of off-road use, customers can be assured that the primary catalytic converter functions normally and, once it reaches operating temperature, should not generate emission levels that exceed public standards in most jurisdictions due to use of the Cattman Y-pipe." ~a quote from the same site as above
Do you intend to pull the y-pipe off for inspections?
