I'd probably have to go with the AM as well. It's not that I don't like the 911's. I'm just not that big a fan of the newer ones. Also, the R8 was a bit of a let down in person. The lines just didn't appeal to me.

i think i'd go for the Audi, i haven't heard the 911 so far or driven it, probably when it comes out with the dsg i'll be more interested, right now, the R8 futuristic look, great handling.

The Audi. Best value for money I've ever come across. £75k and still lapped a track faster than a Koenigsegg CCX and just below a Ferrari Enzo.
Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today.

The Audi for sure. I even prefer the look of the R8 over the AM

If it had to be my only car? I'd put up with the weird looking front and take the Porsche Turbo. I've driven the Turbo and it is very comfortable and everyone says it is very reliable. However, the car has SO much grip and is SO fast that in order to have fun with it you need to push it to absurd levels.

As a second car, the AM V8. I've driven this car too and the chassis, the engine and brakes are all spectacular. Twenty five mile per hour backroads and one hundred and twenty five mile per hour highways are both a delight and it is by far the best looking of the three. However it has typical sh*tty English electrical reliability and the clutch and gearshift are beastly and would be a nightmare in traffic.

I have not driven the R8 yet, but after seeing it in person I think it is WAY over styled and overall the R8 seems to be a supercar build for nerds. Over all I'd place it a very distant third.

EVO did a road test between them and R8 came out on top they were very suprised how it had leap frogged the 911.

Clarkson gave the R8 5 Stars in his review in the sunday times magazine. Quoting it better than this lambo spyder.

He wants a six if you read carefully, but 5's the max.

In the evo shootout it was a Carrera S, not a Turbo; and the Aston was no where in sight.

Nic, how many km did the AM's you drove have on them?

The clutchs I have felt have not been unusually heavy, and the gearbox definitely frees up after about 3-4000km
