    Cadillac SLS (China) 2007-2013

    Chinese Cadillac SLS

For the 2007 model year, the Chinese market received the Cadillac SLS. Compared to the STS, the SLS has a longer wheelbase, unique interior appointments, and a near-identical exterior appearance. Engine choices are the 2.8-litre V-6, 3.6-liter V-6 (the non-direct-injection version shared with the 2005-2007 STS V-6), and the same 4.6-litre Northstar V-8 as in the STS V-8.

The Chinese-Spec SLS received a facelift at the end of 2009, and was sold as a 2010. The grill, bumper and many other details were revised. Shanghai-GM also introduced the OnStar system to the model. Two SIDI engines were introduced, a 272 hp 3.0L and a 310 hp 3.6L. The SLS is priced from 448,000RMB to 698,000RMB.

I still think this is a sharp looking whip. It's too bad that the Northstar engines never really took off.

I do not understand why the Northstar engines didn't catch on. Surely, in the land of the free and V8s Cadillac does not offer any passenger car with engine with more than 6 cylinders, and IIRC neither does Lincoln.

Meanwhile, both the Japanese and the Germans have plenty of V8 engined offerings...

More than 2 valves per cylinder and single camshaft too complex?

Surely that was the problem. I dunno the exact issue but I think it was reliability related.

So they didn't use the Northstar engines in anything other than Buicks and Cadillacs?

Would have been interesting in a Corvette perhaps.

Why? Bulkier, worse MPG and less powerful....

We have 2 of the same gen STS at work for test vehicle, they are horrendous pieces of shit...

IIRC it was also used in the late Pontiac Grand Prix and also a 4 litre version saw use in the Olds Aurora.

    Why are they so bad?

BTW, it already saw use in the Corvette, sort of. The Cadillac XLR, that is.

    Diversity?

I didn't know anything about the engines beforehand, sounded interesting to me, that's all.
