It just occurred to me that even using kW and Nm, the specs in metric are still hybrid. rpm is not a recognized SI unit; ideally, we would have X kW @ X Hz.

The silver one will do just fine, thank you very much!

I think that to satisfy SI physics standards, the units would have to be KW, Nm and radians per second. I am not sure how many other motoring enthusiasts currently use rad/s. Maybe we should start using them here. It would be a good way to impose some intellectual snobbery. If you do not understand these units, you are not sufficiently educated to like cars. Go away.

And yes, this is sarcastic. The opposite standard is imposed in Australia. I have actually been told that I am too well educated to like cars.

I wouldn't say imposed, but I would say there's a large proportion of enthusiasts that give the rest of us a bad name.

Revo, it looks like you got those numbers off a German site, is the Continent moving away from PS/bhp to kW?
I know the Aussies do it and I think the Japanese do as well, but I didn't think it had taken a sure hold in Europe yet.

... and for you metric heathens; downforce is in Newtons, that is all

Yes, over here we've been using SI-units in car registration documents since early 1990s.

PS and bhp has pretty much disappeared from the public mind.

Seeing a tach with 1/s and going from 0 - 300π would be hilarious.

I don't intend to seem critical of anyone. I was just surprised, and slightly amused, that someone actually said it. I am not sure whether or not they were themselves a revhead, but they seemed to have a clear preconception of the sort of person who should be interested in cars.

Oh, I'm fully aware that there's people out there that think that.. we call them bogans. They tend to be offended by intellegence. We're not really sure why.

It can be argued that the rpm is only a guidance and not actually the measurement. The power and the torque are both PEAK and so should be in SI units, but the actual revs where the peak were found are subsidiary to it.

I'm with MilesR, we need some snobbery
