    Mission: Tube

So, I got the brilliant idea of buying a new tv for myself. Budget is like $1,500, with 2k being the highest I'd go.

Tell me what to buy, k, thx. <3

    My ideas:
    - LCD preferably over plasma
    - Flat Panel over projection I guess
    - Very good picture quality
    - Good value
    - Somewhere in the high 30" range. 37" is optimal.

Well, I'm thinking more like 37", perhaps even 42". And yeah, I saw Dell's LCD tv's, they were very impressive. Westinghouse I heard is alright but I haven't seen one in person, which is the same reason that I'm scared to buy off of newegg. I know their prices are good, but I want to go to the store and see all of these televisions in person.

I'm just going to stay up all night and head over to Paramus Park mall @ around 10 a.m. to check out the Dell kiosk. Then I'll probably hit up Best Buy and see what they've got.

Perhaps if you go to Pennsylvania Best Buy and suck off Quiggs he'll give you a discount?

Not too sure if American models differ from the ones we have here, but the 32" Sharp w/ inbuilt HD tuner is about AU$2.5k here and probably the best available for the money
The usual Sony, Panasonic, Samsung are around that price range too and pretty good...

    EDIT: Sorry, that's 32" not 37

EDIT2: New Sony 32" with HD tuner is apparently very good, but $AU3500, which seems to be out of your price range

Well how about a non-flat-screen TV ? The image quality is much better and they last decades instead of years. Apart from that the price is much lower BUT you will need some space and a sturdy place for it to stand on

Personally i like the Philips TV's. They have a slightly cooler image as most japanese TV's and a very sharp image.

Sony, Samsung, Philips. $1500 buys you a lot of LCD.

And don't buy a Westinghouse. We get them returned all the time.

We have a 47" CRT television, but like McReis said, it's huge... not as huge as my penis but huge.

I was reading Popular Mechanics and they actually found that it was cheaper to build one using a flat panel, speaker system and TV tuner. But this was about a year ago.

The 4051, and even its little brother the 4041, are both badass TV's.

I'd go for a Sony Bravia. They're pretty cheap now. I think you can get what you need for 1500.
