See you added "dislike tuning and ricing".

Well with old sportscars they were tuned back then by specialists and they continue to be now by us "purists". Tuning is NOT ricing !!!!!

so my vote is "None of the above"

By the original criterion, I fail miserably at being a purist apparently. Cos I think diesel is great. I have no problem with the improvement of a car through tuning and modification and I think that modern and classic sports cars both have their own merits in equal parts.

    Still... I'll live!

Hmm... I don't know, I dislike automatic transmissions and obviously ricing too...
But Diesels are a good drive (except when racing of course),

But what comes to these, I'm not sure... If I'm going to work I'd rather take a new german sedan than an old unconfortable fuel-o-holic "sportscar"... It depends ofcourse. Also the same with electronic assistances, ok it's fun to drive an old rwd car in the winter, but in a snowstorm when you're driving on the freeway with your family in the car all saftety features like ABS is a blessing... you feel a lot safer in a newer car too.

So I guess I'm not purist then, but I really don't think this is the way to 'measure' it...

what if you are a diesel purist?

wouldnt everyone here like an old sports car (like a 300SL) then and a new normal car (like a honda accord)?

if you dislike electronic assistance you will not like any new cars.

    comfort is relative.

tuning makes cars run better, better to have a smooth runing car then a crappy runing one, right? (though i hate rice)

i think origin should have a role in development, but it shouldnt hinder advance

the term "purist" is a relative one, you can be a purist of anything

    im a non-dumb-thread purist

i dont agree with your definition of purist. like matra said, you did the dumb mistake of stiking tuning and ricing in the same bag.

you should have a 3rd option in your poll: "doesnt agree with the definition of purist but will vote for the hell of it"

Uh...I TOTALLY agreed with three (dislike electronic assists, prefer a classic sportscar to a new one, and dislike tuning/rice [though within reason some tinkering is good]).

And I TOTALLY disagreed with two others...so...I'm not sure...because as new cars go, diesel is the way I'd go, and I don't so much care where a care where a car comes from as long as it's classic.

And as for the other one (would sacrifice comfort on the altar of performance), I am sort of in the middle on it ...my first choice in cars are comfortable ones, so that puts me at odds with that statement. But when I look at a sportscar, I definitely do not believe in compromosing with comfort, or making compromises in cars in general. A sportscar should be a bare bones machine focused purely on performance, just as a luxury car should be purely focused on comfort with no real pretenses of sportiness.

In short, I don't know where I rate.
