it has always been my favorite plane, an i am lucky enough to own a piece of one. my aunt's husband's parents own a scrapyard in Lancaster, CA. When the SR-71s were decommissioned, they put a bit to scrap a few, and they did. So through my uncle, I managed to get a chunk, part of a engine bay door hinge thats made out of solid titanium. very very cool.

WHOA....... This is a great plane. Nothing beats flying at Mach 3. These pilots are automatically astronauts because they fly so high. That's so cool!

You are just along for the ride in the x-15, you can actually control the sr-71.

Yes, but the X-15 could only fly at those speeds for less than two minutes. The SR is know for its speed, as well as it's range and usability. It's like comparing the Koenigsegg to a top fuel dragster. Sure, the dragster is faster. But, only for a short amount of time and it can only be used under specific conditions for specific reasons. The SR was far more versatile and valuable for scientific and military purposes.

300mph is still 300mph. Would you rather have a top fuel dragster than a Koenigsegg?

And after that 2-minute joy ride, you're engine-less. So you just glide along at less than 200mph until you come to a stop.
