as for being less tactile, it was made before the f-18 so what the **** did you expect einstein?

    nice try capt. obvious
Aircraft are designed for a SPECIFIC purpose. They have to be created in order to meet some operational specifications. When the f14 coudn't adapt, it was phased out.
Once more, The f14 has a lesser range than f18. Proof? www.fas.org

Again on being tactile, the MiG-29 came before Sukhoi 30, but was Su30 more tactile?
    NO, it wasn't.

Also they were scrapped so quickly because a Soviet spy was in the factory. Compare the Avro to a Foxbat. The similarities are crazy.

You got a citation for that story ?

The reality is that the US "stole" more than any Soviet Spy could.

After testing the Arrow in the NACA Langley wind tunnel for USAF evaluation the intakes and wing shape were quickly adapted to the Phantom in development at the time. ( The engine designs having previously been "shared" already )

Another "interestign" story of the time is that Dulles told the Canadians that the Arrow wasn't needed as the CIA information showed that the USSR had 1/10th of the bomber fleet that the US were reporting. Clearly building up a large military force was as important to lie over as it is now )

http://www.avroarrow.org/Cancellation.htm is a great read for plane nerds

I saw it on History Channel: Planes of the Cold War or something like that. The Arrow project was cancelled because the Canadian government needed the money for something else (can't remember what). The prototypes were then scrapped very quickly. Also did you compare the two planes? They are very similar. After the Arrow project was cancelled Avro started working on a flying saucer prototype airplane which turned out to be a failure.

^^Wasn't it rejected in favour of the Valkyrie? This is because MiG 25 was supposed to be a Valkyrie interceptor.

Nope, for some reason the government of Canada needed the money that was being spent on the Arrow, I think that it might have been welfare. The Valkyrie was made so that it could outrun everything the Russians had, but then they made the Foxbat which looks extremely similar to the Arrow.

The f-14 was a fantasitic jet and the way it looks and the way it works really sparks the imagination. Its a real shame to hear that but i suppose it was comming.
