CH-46's were flown by the Navy until 2003-4, the Maines still fly them, although they are really terrifying. The loving moniker bestowed upon them is The Whisling Shitcan of Death.

the army still flies the CH-47, which is the exact same helo, just a bit bigger. worked with them too. not bad, but the pilots are definitely not as comfortable landing on ships as their USN and USMC counterparts.

but then it woudl be so much harder for us to conquer you guys. its better to keep you guys flying ancient technology, like those poor old snowbirds. can't even break the sound barrier. sad.

should see some of the ground-air effect planes the USAF is thinking up for special ops insertions etc, pretty cool.

and the SH-60B, the other one I have worked with extensively. a great bird that is very capable at finding subs.

if you're going to fly navy, don't fly jets. the world has enough 'mavericks'
How "big" is the CH-53 anyway? Is it about the same size as Russian helecopters? Because I know that they make them huge too.

Do you guys fly S-64 Skycranes? They should be heavy lifters too.

What do you mean by terrifying? Lots of vibration? Do the propellers rotate in opposite directions or the same?

Haha, are ekranoplanes limited to watery areas so that they can land? And I'd hate to fly one by the beach. Lawnmower-like destruction and splatter everywhere.

I didn't know the USAF made ground effect planes.

I'll look at the videos later. This thread is made of win.

I doubt the CH-53 is the only helo capable of doing that.
