Highly debatable. Pagani or Spyker are low volume manyfacturers. Not the likes of Maserati, Ferrari or Aston Martin. The first two will probably by bailed out through their Fiat connection, but since Aston left Ford, they don't have such a life line.

Doesn't Aston Martin make less cars than Ferrari and Maserati? And, is really making more cars the solution?

Aston Martin supposedly delivered a total of around 5,800 in 2007, Averaging around 4,500-5,000 over the past few years.

so yeah, they're mid volume these days. Certainly better than the era of selling 95 cars in a year.

During the days of the DB7 Aston was close to 10000 units p/a IIRC. Who talks about more cars? It is just a competitor for the Toyota IQ and given the snob-appeal of the brand, the sales of the Cygnet may go at the expense of the IQ.

IIRC AM was closer to a 7.000 figure last year or so.
The same as Ferrari, less than Bentley (which reached the 10.000 sales mark or so before of the crysis).
Could it be that Maserati was around the 15.000 mark?

This Cygnet is so laughable and embarrassing I almost want one, then I'd swap a V8 in it.

as it is... i'm left with a lot of questions, and no suitable answers.

    Aston Martin has gone mad...

Ferrari of Atlanta was also an Aston dealer until a month or so ago....then Aston demanded they build a dedicated dealership building just for Aston's.....and FoA told them to go fornicate themselves.

FoA provided a dedicated showroom for the Aston's albeit much smaller than the Ferrari showroom...but selling a half dozen of them per year it fit the bill.

Imagine in this economic climate making such a request.

Perhaps it was just a polite way to end their relationship.

Generally the Ferrari Customer might not be the Aston Martin customer.

This is actually a very clever idea from the management at AM - How else are they supposed to comply with this idiotic and ill-thought-out fleet average emissions legislation?

The legislators simply do not care about the effects their bulls**t will have on performance and prestige vehicle manufacturers, their employees, stakeholders etc. It is simply inappropriate to bring in this kind of legislation in times of economic hardship: If AM, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. all went down the pan because of these kinds of stunts, thousands would lose their livelihoods.

Companies such as Aston-Martin produce high performance motor vehicles - their clientele won't accept eco-specials that lack the necessary performance. Seeing as currently there is no genuine alternative to a performance-orientated fossil-fuelled engine (which naturally produces high amounts of waste gasses), this kind of legislation would see the death of every single performance car manufacturer if they didn't have the brains to pull stunts like the Cygnet.

At the end of the day, the Cygnet is a necessary "evil". - One half of me wants it to be a total sales failure as it's just plain wrong on so many levels...however, if it's the only way that Aston can continue to do what they do best, I'll just have to grin and bear it (and hopefully vote for the UK to leave the EU ASAP! - They can shove their satellite tracking & ITS systems too!).
