thats not what im getting at

someone might be able to show up in their clapped out old JDM rwd and have some fun drifting, but they'd need to start spending money on a regular basis to get competitive and stay that way

True but thats to do with maintaining the car really cause drifting puts alot of strain on suspension components, etc.

hehe good luck trying that one
Never let the car get you into a position where you have to try to catch it... keep it under control by feathering the throttle and couter-steering accordingly - back off and it will snap-oversteer on you.

Check out www.fulllock.com - these guys organise all the major drift events in Aus.

Slick Holden, if you are keen on trying drift and are in Melb, get onto the website I posted - they have practice days at Calder Park so you can practice in a controlled and legal environment, and their instructors actually go out with you and help you out with technique.

Roach the AE86 has more than 100Kw, nobody is running the god awful 4AC that came wiht our sprinters here, they've all swapped over to the 4AGE's either supercharged or the 20 valves (or both or turbo charged), the 20V was 160hp and the supercharged was a bt less hp but way more torque.
having said that...it's not much more than 100kw :P

I should take the 535i out for a drift day, it's got a good torquey I6 and an M5 LSD

I saw what appeared to be a totally stock 200 to be drifting at manfeild. Then again didn't get a peak under the engine or anything. But looked stock anyway. It was doing pretty well..
