    state your specific model then.
It would be like 500 kg heavier than its competitor, or even 1/3 heavier. No way.

Also if the Saab is too big, why not keep the Megane? What version is it?

    I think that's the problem.

Maybe you can look up the Perodua Kelisa. Its based on the Daihatsu Cuore but it comes in a 1L DOHC and 4 doors.

It was my 1st car and on a full tank could last me 10 days to my workplace and back which is about 80km round trip

Peroduas aren't available in NZ. Also, Daihatsus have quite bad safety ratings I believe...

The manual 5 door hatch weights 1055kg, so the automatic must be around that figure.

If you really need a smallish car I'd stick with the Renault rather than buying a new car.

exactly. don't get a new car because you'll could get into an accident and the insurance would be a pain in the butt and in the wallet. i see nothing wrong in having a slightly used car. as long as its good condition thats for sure. do yourself and your mom a favor and just don't buy a new car. wait till your more experienced on the road.

Yea, we're currently just putting the Saab on trademe. Since the trade-in value is so low, we might just keep the Renault.

Its a bargain for sure. Lots of imported Saabs from Singapore and Malaysia etc have driven down the prices here though. Alot of car for your money to be had if you get a good one.

Since the trade-in value is now so low .. why not keep it?

Why sell it for the reason of it already having depreciated? This depreciated loss will be your incurred loss! That horse has already bolted and by selling it you are set to achieve the polar opposite of your pretence of 'saving money'

Financially the worst thing you could do is to cement your loss through selling a much depreciated yet virtually unused high-quality asset, and then have to pump an additional $15,000+ into a new [insert model] supermini replacement which is going to lose you another $5,000+ within the first 12 months!

Coveting a shiny new car is your perogative, absolutely, but it has nought to do with saving your mother's money.

Sell the Renault - it's the worst car of the two.

    Keep the 9-5. 23km? bargain.

You're selling a very good new car to buy a low (POS) segment one? it just doesn't make sense. keep the Saab, stop behing a princess and drive it!
