    People often take it that in order to protect their freedom they must be safe, which, as you can see with the current state of the country, leads to Gestapo like police, punishment for dissent, etc., etc., etc....

    I don't react terribly well to everything being regulated/dictated - part of why I'm a semi-libertarian. Plus I'm a good shot, so I'll pick free over safe

    hahaha since liberalism is always associated with the ultimate in freedom.

    seriously though, its silly to think thats its not possible to be both free and safe. i hate when people make the argument, "im willing to trade a few liberties in order to be safe from terrorism, criminals, blah blah blah". its so stupid it frustrates me. Countries with plenty of freedom have been safe, just like countrties without freedom have been safe. and likewise both have been dangerous.

    to be honest, i think its a lot better to be afraid of terrorism (or whatever these people are so afraid of) than to be afraid of your own government (which is what happens when you sacrafice freedom).
    A woman goes to the doctor to figure out why she is having breathing problems...The doctor tells her she is overweight. She says she wants a second opinion...the doctor says, "your ugly".
