New Aston Martin, Ferrari and BMW from Villa d'Este and electric Boxster ...

In the great tradition of the concours d'elegance of old, this weekend's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este featured several world debuts. These were featured in a special class of the concours for modern concept cars and prototypes. A public referendum on Sunday picked the Aston Martin V12 Zagato as the best of this class. Built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary DB4 GT Zagato, the latest Aston Martin is built for use on both the road and track. In fact the car displayed at Villa d'Este will take part in a race at the Nurburgring this weekend and should be back next month for the 24 Hours at the 'Ring. The car is based on the potent V12 Vantage platform and sports a design created by Zagato in collaboration with Aston's own styling team. Although not yet officially confirmed, a production run of 19 examples of the V12 Zagato is planned.
As promised last week, we have taken a very close look at the Ferrari Superamerica 45, which also made its public debut at Villa d'Este. Unlike the Aston Martin, this car will remain strictly a one-off. Mr Kalikow himself showed us around the car and demonstrated some of its custom features like the rotating roof and the lovely blue carbon-fibre parts. All this and much more can be seen in our 24-shot gallery of the Superamerica 45.
Although not a participant in the event, the BMW 328 Hommage was also launched at Lake Como. This dramatic show car was built to celebrate the 75th anniversary of one of BMW's most iconic models. The thoroughly modern machine is very light despite featuring a three-litre six cylinder engine.
At last week's Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin for sustainable vehicles, Porsche demonstrated the Boxster E. Based on a standard Boxster, this experimental vehicle uses two electric motors; one for each axle. The combined output is a very impressive 242 bhp and 540 Nm of torque.

^^^ Why, well for more reason i don't whant a Electric Boxer, it's a spots car, i'm not saying you can't get good electric sports cars. A hybrid Boxer would be better.

It's realy down to Personal opinion, but for some reason I don’t want it. But if It does get made well that’s Porsche chose, i don't hate it and i'm not saying it's rubish.

I asked because I'm rather happy to see that not only the econobox makers are interested on the e-car theme. The shift to electric cars is inevitable, so I'm happy if it's done by people who know how to make sportscars.

I actually do hope they make it, but I think they need to create a new name for it. Changing from a RR gas engine to a front/rear dual electric is a pretty fundamental change to weight balance and performance characteristic. Frankly, it'll probably be a great balance, it's just so different it seems it should be its own thing.

Ferdinand Porsche already made an electric car in 1901.

^^^Maybe, i just don't want a all electric Porsche boxster, it will happen i know because cars are going electric. I would be more happy with a hybrid version.

    I think you misunderstood something.
Porsche won't stop to build the ICE Boxster, they will just add an electric variant.

^^^ I know their not going to stop making the Boxster. What i was trying to say was that i would prefer a hybrid boxster over a all electric boxster.

Why's that? Wouldn't a hybrid one have extra weight for minimal gains? I'd prefer them to explore the idea of a high performance diesel than a hybrid, far more interesting. Besides, there's talk of the new 911 having a flywheel based hybrid option so that's already covered.

^^^ I agree i would prefer to see a performance diesel over a hybrid and all electric because i am very intrested in performance diesel. I want to see a Diesel supercar.

About the flywheel. Is it the flywheel accumulator like the one of the 918 RSR and 911 GT3 R which uses a flywheel mounted on the passenger side to capture some of the energy normally wasted by converting kinetic energy to heat under braking.

I'm sorry but to me a diesel supercar is a silly idea. As is the idea of a sportscar.

Would it be silly if they had built the R8 with a V12 diesel?

    I would have liked it.

And VW was considering one too.

I wouldn't mind. I'd prefer diesel over electric any day.
