*crosses fingers and hope they don't screw up*

And I might be optimistic, but in side profile I do see a reference to the E39 5 Series, so it could be good.

They can't screw up more than they did with the E60.

The 5 GT is pretty bad and I think this will look a lot like it.

Is it worse than the E60? I dunno.

E65 to F01 transition was an imporvement in my opinion, and this will probably be the same.

However improvement doesn't mean it will necessarily be good looking.

I know you liked the 5 Series GT (somehow) but do you like it's looks? I think that's what we're gonna get for the new 5 Series - albeit lower and with tweaks to the ass.

I agree with you, I definitely see the E39 reference, which was the last non-Japanese looking 5-Series, so maybe this'll look ok. Then again, I have a hard time seeing the angry headlights going away BMWs always looked so understated and purposeful...the minute they started trying to compete with the looks of other cars was the minute they stopped looking like BMWs IMO...

I like the GT as a concept, but I think it could be better executed. As for the looks the most telling are the details and they weren't too bad. Expecially the headlamps were a big imporvement and the flame surface was toned down.

If I had to judge the detailing and finish, I'd suppose the X6 isn't too bad too.....NEVER.

I think a much more fair comparison is 1er v Delta.

In one the proportions are right and the detailing isn't and on the other is the exact opposite.

Mine wasn't a comparison though, just another well executed wrong idea.

I honestly like both the finish and the proportions of the Delta, except for the front end (not only the grille).
I don't think there is something I really like about the 1 Series, I've never been a fan of BMW interiors as well, so...it's an easy choice for me between the two, and if we have to consider the rwd, I'd just pick a different car, perhaps even an fwd (Integra, anyone? I can live with that).

What I meant is that the BMW has the right proportions (long bonnet, short overhangs, low profile) to look good, but they've claerly messed with the detailing.

The Lancia on the other hand has the proportions of a van (and no rear headroom at all, but that's another matter) but the detailing is very nice, the lead hadlamps and tailights, the glassy hatchback and so on.

I'm not my opinion they are opposited when it comes to design (not discussing the driving dynamics).

I don't really like angry headlights. I mean, the E39's headlights were understated, but aggressive yet at the same time. They had a sophistication to it that the current crop of BMWs just don't have.
