very impressive there! i did something similar to that but had to take apart an 83', think it was an 86' Dodge K-car inline 4 engine in auto class when i was in high school. I would love to do something like that again. if only, if only. best time-consuming thing EVA!

The heater is to get it over rego. Its coming out after that. The spare one i had was in good enough nick to get me over the line apparently.

The SUs are being on sold. After talking to a few Datsun blokes ive bought the later model (less good) emissions riddled, scant parts, exxy to work on etc. Ill sell the filters and carbs seperate though an may come out a few dollars ahead.

So im going to stick with the single carb until I can

    a) afford to go SR/FJ
    or
    b) afford to go twin webers.

Honestly though, i think an FJ/SR conversion is more likely unless a built L series comes up for a good price.

FJ/SR sounds fun, I think the FJ sounds more "old school" when tuned so keeps the theme abit more I guess..

Glad to see it running man.

I think an FJ will be the go but an SR *literally* bolts up with very little modification (like 30 mins fab work)

FJs are cheaper but SRs have more support/newer etc but more expensive...

Ill cross that road when i have the cash

Blue, dont go FJ they are a boat anchor compared to a SR, plus they are hard to get bits for etc. The SR has plenty of aftermarket support and there would be plenty of info on the engine swap. The FJ is a great engine and is better suited to massive boost applications drag racing etc but I know a few guys that have ditched the FJ for the SR and havent looked back financially.

P.S My mate just got his car hub dynoed and it made 430rwkw with a fairly stock SR20DET blacktop model, garrett 3582Rturbo @ 24 psi, bigger inj 880cc, stock intake, exhaust housings all it runs is forgies, decent rods and arp bolts through it.

everyone i talk to says webers aren't all that much better than SU's
i wonder if there is a crossflow head conversion available for L series engines?

There is, its called an FJ20 or SR20

I think SR will be the go after looking around, might be more expensive up front but long term i think itd be better.

Anyways, picking up heater today so should be able to book rego inspection for next week.

What about Solex-Mikunis? The Datsun 510 race car we have in the shop has a pair of those on it, they work quite well. Even if they aren't better, they add a touch of awesome to the engine bay.

solex-mikunis are more a toyota thing, not sure theyd have much support for a datto.

Sam you'd be better off (financially and less headache) to just do an RB25DET conversion in a Z car...

SR20 apparently just drops in with minor mount adjustment so yeh, probably the go in the future.

Getting heater back this afternoon, $125. So checklist for rego is down to

    - Refit heater and test
    - refit steering wheel so horn works
    - top up gearbox
    - put cheesecutters on it.

Broke the heater controls today, well just one of them but thats enough to stuff the lot. Also found out the 3 metres of heater hose I bought is the wrong size

did some other little tweaks (filled gearbox up properly, fitted new indicator on front) but yeh, 1 step forward 2 steps back.

In other news. Polly the Pulsar will be up for sale shortly. Shes been an AWESOME car for the last 5 years but we're all getting older and we pick up our new car next week. I spent 3 hours on it today giving it the best detail its ever had, even repainted the wheel covers Mechanically solid as Ayers rock! If anyone knows anyone after a cheap and very reliable daily let me know
