it does not need that amount of force to loosen rigs from their anchors. Obviously the bridge was strong enough to stop, although the praying guy to the left of the picture may have helped. Alternatively this picture was taken just before the rig slammed the bridge

Did anybody see the footage of the bridge/cosway structure that was completly leveled? they said it would be alteast a year untill its repaired and a month untill ships can go through the debris.

I bet the people who would "brave through the storm" feel downright stupid now huh...
Seriously though, some of those pictures are horrible. I hope for the sake of all inhabitants of that area that they will be able to go back to their houses relatively soon. Sadly this is most likely not the case. On the bright side, think of the amount of crappy american cars this might have destroyed!
This seems to have affected Australia as well in some ways, with wind gusts of up to 189km/h here, and a lot of distress calls put out. Could this be the start of a global storm?!
