Yeah, that Lagonda's a head-scratcher for sure, but there's something sinister in the lines that I sort of like. I believe that was a conversion performed in Sweden, where they still understand how to make things with just a whif of stark terror underneath all that cleanliness. Looks like something, I don't know, a Dracula would drive.

    I want one.

When I read the Thread title I thought it would be a conversion project, turning a Elan into a Ambulance, Oh well I can wait

No, it was called simply Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake.
It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

I think Shooting Brakes are a novel approach to the issue of practicality vs. performance and luxury, though I'm still on the fence as to whether one would occupy a place in my own garage.

Please try to avoid making brain-rotting posts like these.
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"

It's more a "I don't much like the look of these cars due to [insert reasoning here]" kinda thing. That way we can debate things. Discussions and reasoned debates are the order of the day, you dig?

I love shooting breaks. Practicality and luxury. Perfect combination.

I know this quoted post was quite awhile ago, but Dr. Kamm's innovation works very well aerodynamically to reduce drag.
I'd never seen some of these cars, the Lotus is a new one for me. The pretty Astons and Jags have been featured in a couple of publications, the Lagonda >shudder< is one I thankfully missed. Though I've long known the definition of a "shooting break" why not just call them station wagons? Must be a British thing. I had a very nice Volvo 1800ES once, and loved it... and liked Reliant's Scimitar and the Healey version, too.

The origin is similar to American "breaks" as originally they were modified cars for transportation to and from rail stations.
I guess we just didn't have Duesenberg, Peerless or Pierce-Arrow versions used for bird hunting.

an Estate Car, aka Station Wagon, is based upon a sedan and has 4 doors up front. a 'Break is typically based on a coupe or sports car with only 2 doors.

There have been 2 door estates though. Kadett and Escort spring to mind.

Where did LandQuail go off to? Nothing tragic, I hope?

Exactly... there are plenty of two-door examples, Chevy Nomads, Vega wagons, Ford Crestline woodies and Falcon wagons good American examples. All designs based on popular coupes or two-door sedans. CMC, I realize most (all?) British style breaks are two door, and estates are based on sedans, not sporting cars.
Just interesting that we call them station wagons instead of shooting breaks. Even custom one-off Corvette or Mustang examples.
In both cases, catagorized by the jobs they perform; ours perceived as utiltarian if not egalitarian, theirs more for leisurely pursuits of the moneyed class.
