I am missing something here, when did the CCX break the record? I was under the impression that in the last 3-4 years it was like the CCR, then the Veyron broke it and so when did the CCX break it? Or am I way off here? Did the Veyron not "officially" break the record yet, as I would guess Guiness is the "official" one everyone wants.

The McLaren does fast track times, but it was not a design goal. If that had been the case the high down force kit would have been standard and many differences would have been made to overall design.

The CCX is not a speed record holder, but holder of the world's most powerful production engine title. The CCR holds the speed record.

Bugatti has claimed both of these, but yet to do a test with the independant judges to get it ratified. The CCXR though may yet upset their party.

There is apparently some discussion as to who gets the track 1st to be finalised though

I am pulling for the Koenigsegg upset, that'd be awesome, the little Swedish maker taking out the big dogs in Germany.

Is Koenigsegg gonna use the CCXR then? This could be a close competition. (if Koenigsegg uses the CCXR)

Why is everyone so hell bent on top speed?

Is it because it's easier to attain than handling?

Slap a couple turboes on that thing and call it a day.

I know it's not that simple, but give it a break. It gets boring and repetitive.

But... don't you guys think they're actually very different cars? one going for top speed and handling, tracks. The other is a comfortable 350kmh+ cruiser. of course the veyron would be losing out i guess.

Yes they are two different cars, one is a worthy supercar and the other is just an awful marketing exercise.
