Well talking about twin charging, a swedish genius has made his own homemade system that pumps a 2.5L volvo I4 to 578hp and 476,6lbs/ft. of torque. He uses a Garret GT40 turbo and an Eaton M62 supercharger. He built a clever system of oneway valves that allow the system to switch automatically at the right time between the super charger and the turbo.

Check out www.hilmersson-racing.com (a link to the english section is at the top)

And here is a pic of the wonderfull engine:

Power, whether measured as HP, PS, or KW is what accelerates cars and gets it up to top speed. Power also determines how far you take a wall when you hit it
    Engine torque is an illusion.

hmm i just found out that this twin charging system will be used in a new light weight sports car (lotus like) made by audi.
details are small. but something new to add here. it was in the new issue of Road & Track
if any one can give more details please do

Sorry I didn't know that there was an attachment system but now I know!

When I looked at the twincharger system that VW made I just keep thinking that all that rather long weaving crush bend pipes that they are doing pretty well to get 170hp out of 1.4L! Aftermarket upgraded piping should see some usefull gains

No they won't, if it was possible to use less piping to gain power VAG would have done it. I really can't believe the number of people who think there is such a thing as a cheap upgrade that gives massive amounts of power. Engines in mass produced cars are usually designed by teams of engineers who are amoung the best in their field (apart from the ones who were at rover) and they used incredibly powerful computers to aid their designs which take years to complete. Anything you can think of in 20 seconds sitting in your bedroom will have been thought of by them and dismissed for a very good reason.

Well the engineers were not all going for the most output power possible. They wanted efficiency and a compact package which placed constraints on the space available for the piping. If larger smoother piping was used and if that piping had better insulation then you would see a gain in power.

Then by that logic, fitting such pipes would make it impossible to fit the engine inside the car.

No but you would have to put pipes in places that may not fit under the hood (you can fix that easily) or you might have to move something like the radiator alittle.
