    Complete* Ferrari 599 Barchetta Custom

This is Revell's 599GTB converted to a barchetta. I cut the top off then molded in engine covers from the Porsche CGT as headrests. The body paint is Tamiya Black Metallic ans TS13 clear. Interior is Acryl Vermin Brown, Sloth Brown and PollyScale Engine Black.

The rims are from Fujimi's 599. The chrome Pininfarina, Ferrari and Cavallino emblems are Crazy Modeler...the yellow badges are MSM's peel and stick.

I built it curbside without too much trouble....a few boo boo's here an there and the hood is badly warped.

I do not see any warps, but if it is a curbside kit, you could simply glue it tight isn't it?

Where did you find the headrest extensions? That would probably be the most difficult part if you had to scratch built them.

    Thanks!

It's just a long time hobby...I've only done one commission build several years ago and to be honest I didn't enjoy it. It was a '65 Corvette Grand Sport which was originally driven by Roger Penske and Jim Hall...a friend of the current owner of the car commissioned me to build a replica for the owner as a gift. It seemed to turn the hobby into a job and in the end you send the work off to the customer. The money is decent but the satisfaction is empty.

I did glue the hood down with superglue but the attachment points didn't help me out much.

The 'humps' off the engine cover left from the Porsche CGT conversion is what I used for the headrests, in fact I used the whole engine cover.

whereby a closer look reveals that the people in the Porsche are sitting slightly closer together than those in the Ferrari

Indeed. There's only so much time I can devote to a single project....each cut to add or take away plastic adds tons of time sanding, adding filler, priming and checking for smoothness....so corners get cut here and there.

I generally don't like Ferrari modifications, but I think this looks really good. Nice work.
