it's a common modification in Italy (AFAIK the majority of the kits installed in EU are built here), costs about 1500/3000 € depending on the car and the engine and if you choose to use GPL (liquid) or Methane (gas). the second option in the more expensive but even more remunerative and efficient. you can very easily achieve more than 30 km per kg of fuel in a car with a 1,4 liter petrol engine making it even more cheap than a diesel version to maintain, even if the performance are going to suffer a little.
Nowadays the modification is available even for engine with direct injection.
The dimension of the additional tank and the availability of service areas with methane are the main issues. the GPL stations are quite common, while methane stations are diffused just in the northern part of the country. usually the additional tank is good for at least 350 km more than what you can achieve just with the standard petrol tank.
You can switch between the two fuels at any times and you can hear a little difference in the engine's sound but the passage is very smooth and silent overall. Petrol is always used for starting the engine and for some seconds after it started, then it automatically switches to methane or gpl.
