Street racing

I am not against speed or racing as such, however I do find that there seems to be a great deal of acceptance of street racing.

Things like "fast and the furious", and Need for Speed Underground seem to be actively encouraging young people to buy a fast car, take it onto the street, and race/ drive fast.

I think this is very irresponsible, as for the most part I doubt whether many young people in this target age (new drivers - late teens early twenties) that have had any specialised training in driving a car at high speed.
This age group is also the least likely to use their common sense, there are some occasions where it is possible to drive fast on the roads, providing the conditions are right, and you don't get caught.

Around here some people in their maxxed up hatches like to drive around at the highest speed possible, mostly on "deserted" residential roads at night, usually the same time that all the people staggering home from the pub are walking home, along the very same roads.

The other night someone went past my window on the limiter , before slamming on the brakes, locking up and sliding to a halt. (30mph limit)

i say if your going to street race, where protective fireproof suits and a helmet
second, only race where you know there aren't other people around

I think street racing is dumb. Why risk your live when you can go to a track and have just as much fun safely (and legally)?

very true, but i think for the street racers its abut the money, and the thrill of breaking the law has alot to do with it

you won't stop street racing completly you can only reduce it. you need bigger fines, more demerit points on you driver license, immediate license suspension for a full year, immediate confiscation of car for a full year (whether your the owner or not). it still a problem in vancouver.

i think the biggest thing is the fact that it is illegal because how many people go to a track day Vs a road drag race? its a stupid thing to do and things like Fast and the furious and NFSU are all riding on the back of it not thinking about how they are encouraging it. there just following the current rages and still the original NFS's were all road races and the only difference is that this one has the car usually associated with illegal street racing. either way i think that the produces of these movies and games should be more responsible and put warnings on their games/movies much the same way that wrestling has its warnings (ie don't try this at home). they should try and make the distinguishing factor of games Vs reality.

(N0one) i feel shocked at what that F**KING steath driver said, i too would have tried (because i cant fight) to beat the living s**t out of him. i think you did the right thing by trying to help her, i really feel sorry for her, and the possible trauma from that incident. it is a really powerful story, all i know is i will never street race, not even on a highway, even if i were in a tank.

i appologise for the profanity, but i belive it suits the mood of me right now.

i severely oppose street racing. i know for a fact that at least 50% of males in my classes would take their future first car (hotted up gemini's/ commodores/ fords etc) and race given a chance. they deserve to crash into a light pole doing 20 km/h! wreck their little sound systems!

Put those "Street Racers" on a track and see how they'll do...think they'll know how to attack a corner? apex? breaking? not to mention how to set up the car for the track (and that's NOT riceing it - riceing, is that a word )?

It is strange, I have never really thought that the first NFS games encouraged road racing, I always considered they were more of a 'fantasy' game, as not many people are going to own a McLaren F1, Ferrari F50 etc, so the game was allowing you to pretend you did.
I suppose NFS underground has an element of that, but it only features cars that are more accessible to the people more likely to go out racing.

There is a difference between racing an F50 in a game, then going out to drive a focus, and racing a focus in a game and then going out to drive a focus. If you see what I mean.

I don't really think that a simple warning will stop everyone, most sensible people aren't going to try it any way.

There won't be a way to stop street racing completely.the only way to actually get close to getting rid of it is to have more cops patrolling the same area, and have harsher penalties......Just my opinion...

I think that street racing will be very hard to stop completely.

However, if people were taught to be responsible for their actions, rather than blameing everyone else, and were properly taught the consequences of their actions, I think that there could be a significant reduction in the number of street racing instances.

i think that films like fast and furious and need for speed should take responsibility for what might happen due to their audience. I myself am 16 and was very tempted to buy a manual transmission car and learn to "drift" after watching initial d but unlike most people my age i have the balls or well lack of to realize that this shit is actually life threatening stuff.

I still want to learn to drive a manual transmission but not for the foolish reasons my schoolmates and friends do. driving a car is a privilage not a right. no one has the right to abuse it and endanger the lives of yourself passengers and fellow drivers

btw the reason why i still wanna drive stick is cuz my dad dont know how so when i get a car he wont be able to drive it (he really REALLY bad driver like ... mr bean bad)

i understand where ur comin from i was just making the point that it is only the cars they use in the current NFS that has you all talkin and all the games are on the road. as for the warning, well i was cought up in the moment but it may have some effect but things like bigger fines and more demerit points taken and a lot more police officers on the road would do a lot in stopping ppl from doing stupid things on the road. and also to KnifeEdge_2K1 there isn't any thing wrong with learning how to drift but there is a lot wrong with doing it on the road.
