    Diesel Rotary Engines

I know that diesel requires very high compression just to be ignited and all the little bits, it makes sense that a piston engine can run it, but can a rotary be run with diesel also? I know the basics about a rotary, would there be enough compression to ignite the diesel? I'm sure fuel/air ratio is no problem. Maybe the problem with a diesel rotary would be how how many revs it does. Gasoline run rotaries will rev very high, but its the opposite for a diesel.

    What are your thoughts?

    Has this been done before?

There were some prototypes IIRC, but it's not really ideal. The sealing of a square combustion chamber is far less efficient than a circular one.

they have trouble with high pressure configurations anyway. heavy duty turbo applications blow out apex seals with alarming regularity. i cant imagine it would be efficient, reliable, or safe.

THe basic geometry of a Wankel SUCKS at getting sufficient compression to self-ignite diesel, so the problem of seals survivability is moot.

Rolls played with a dual stage Wankel to up the compression ratio, but pretty obvious when you step back from it that it's so complex it has lost all the advantages of a rotary
