    Car Covers... how to keep them on?

    The windy season is here (Santa Ana winds) and I am having the same problem I had last season... trying to keep the car cover on. This is for my '95 Lincoln which is parked in the street.

    I am using a car cover which is designed for my year and model and it has two straps which snap closed and supposedly keep the car cover from billowing and coming off the car.

    Well, I walked outside yesterday morning and the car cover was completely off the car- laying on the sidewalk, not on the street.

    I even used some vise-grips on the rear strap to weight it down. It didn't help much! Any ideas how to keep the cover on? I tried wetting it down to make it heavier but these warm winds dry it in an hour or two.

    big straps, over the boot and bonnet to just infront or behind the wheels. So the straps are vertical.

    Don't use one unless the car is spotless.

    The movement of them will scratch the paint with the slightest of breeze, high winds will be horrific to it.

    Bungie cord from the car cover to the car. Should hold it on.

    I use on on my car... paint is crap anyway but the cover keeps leaves and needles out of body gaps and keeps all the plastic bits out of sunlight.

    Any dirt or dust gets under it and yeah, scratch central.

    Although the alternative (sandblasting) isn't great.

    [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellophane"]Cellophane[/ame], should do the trick.

    you'd have to change it every day or so, but it's still cheap and effective.

    My 2-car garage already has 2 cars in it ('66 Plymouth Fury VIP & '69 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham).

    No more room in the garage!

    As for the Lincoln, I think I will just use the car cover on non-windy days and remove it when wind is expected.

    It gets windy here too, Fleet. When needed bungie cords work well, one in front of the rear wheels, one behind the fronts. If your cover doesn't have conveniently placed grommets add them where they'll work best on your car.
