not really though. GM owned AM General, and when it wanted to bring it to market, they just pulled them off the assembly line and put different interiors in. it was taken and made into a brand later, but always owned by GM.

in EU the Viper has always been sold, advertised and even raced as a Chrysler...
IIRC the "new" model is marketed as a Dodge. (and Dodge is available here from just a year or two)

Yep old Viper was a Chrysler, new one since the introduction of Dodge in Europe is branded as such.

Here I was thinking the fight for Chrysler went something like this:

    "YOU have it!"

    "No, YOU have it!"

AM General is an independent company that develops military vehicles including the HUMVEE. GM signed a marketing agreement that allowed them to market and distribute Hummer vehicles including the civilian HUMVEE. GM is looking to sell the Hummer brand.

As for a car being split from a company, MINI was the only part of Rover which BMW kept.

both MINI and Land Rover were separated brands from Rover, AFAIK.

Sorry I meant Rover Group but I guess you are right. But wasn't the Mini a MG product?

That would be a kickass automotive company. But then again, maybe not. Especially when it comes down to important decisions such as styling, power, etc, I can imagine that if the UCP forum ran it, nothing would get done, somehow.

Some people have really polarized opinions.

Wow, didn't know that. But to Americans, it would definitely be weird.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to take charge of this company either.

I find it quite amusing that their stock price dove when the rumor surfaced.
    I'm not sure why.

"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"

I am very sure why....being associated with the US automotive industry these days is a guarantee for diving stock prices....so if you want to ruin a sound company, say that is has interest in buying.....Pontiac or so...

I konw, but I find it quite hilarious, and I don't know why.
I seem to remember GM and some Euro company sharing gearboxes, I can't remeber which but I doubt they're suffering as much as Detroit.
