lots of manufacturers are looking into DIesel .. for LeMans . they have some new regulations . and in my opinion it has a chance for a win .. maybe not in the next 2-3 years but it does have .. and DIesel - endurace ... it makes sense .. .. it could have made sense in the Group C too

There has been a diesel VW golf rally car, I'm sure there has been a BMW diesel 3 series doing races somewhere in Europe, and Seat are thinking about a diesel for the BTCC.
I said something jokingly about a Porsche tractor once, and was told they had already done one. I wasn't surprised that they had done it, just surprised I'd never heard of it before.
Thanks for all the fish
It is such a great tractor too!Originally Posted by Coventrysucks

Didn't Lambo start as a tractor company?
Puff Daddy says his Ferrari 360 Spider can go 220 because the speedo says so

This story has been told many times before, but old Ferruccio indeed owned a tractor company and he used Ferrari's for his private ride. Being unsatisfied with the quality and the way he was treated by the factory (old Enzo), made him decide to build his own cars, and the rest is history.Originally Posted by DwZX35

Most powerful internal combustion engine in the world is a diesel.
( AND *NO* amount of ricer tuning or hemi-heads will match it )
Any cases how many hp ?????

MAN B&W K108MC, 14 cylinder version offering 97300 kw. (1080 mm bore)

Worth a perusal of the site just to see the main bearing and crankshaft.
UNREAL
Consumes 1660 gallons of diesel per hour. Now that would be something in the region of 30 gallons per mile. Hell that's nearly as bad as a top-fuel dragster
Hell, here's one pic for fun....

Actually the interesting thing about these new engines is that for the first time they go over 12 cylinders. It had long been thought that 12 was the maximum, and that more cylinder would cause too much flexion in the crankshaft.
A related problem concers the propshaft, for which 60,000 BHP was considered to be the maximum before having to shift to twin shafts and rudders. (just imagine the gearbox necessary for that). Obviously metal technolgy has overcome that problem too.
What do we need these engines for?
Containersship with a capacity of more than 10,000 TEU (twenty feet equivalent unit) and capable of doing 26-28 knots. (more than 50 kph).
The well known behemoths of the sea, the very big tankers carrying more than 400000 tons of crude oil may need less than 50000 BHP, as there required service speed is about 15 knots.
