International debut of the Fox at the AMI Leipzig
Wolfsburg / Leipzig, 1 April 2005 – During a press conference at the Volkswagen stand at the Automobil International, Dr. Georg Flandorfer, Member of the Board of Management with responsibility for Sales and Marketing, today unveiled two new models which are very important to Volkswagen.
Volkswagen is continuing its unprecedented model offensive with the Fox and the new Polo – and following the Jetta (USA), Golf Plus and Passat, now has two important international debuts at the AMI. Dr. Georg Flandorfer highlighted this in his speech: “There is a double pack from Volkswagen today, the new Polo and the VW Fox. We are living up to our name with both these models. As the automotive company with the highest sales figures in Europe, we have no intention of neglecting this class in order to achieve the necessary volumes.”
The Fox is not an economy model but rather a fully-fledged vehicle for all year round which has everything that makes a proper car. That does not mean the four wheels but four complete seats and no “half” solutions and a superior running gear (available with ESP on request and always with ABS). There are three engines to choose from – two petrol engines and a TDI. There is also an optional multi-variable and adjustable rear seat bench, more than 1 000 litres luggage compartment volume if required and a galvanised and laser-welded body. It therefore has both the quality and perfect functionality which has been characteristic of Volkswagen vehicles for decades. “We have always talked about a Volkswagen which would cost less than 10 000 euros. We have been more than successful with this, as at 8 950 euros, the price of the Fox is considerably lower than many of you expected,” Dr. Flandorfer continued. The clever Fox is now the most reasonably-priced Volkswagen. Maximum car for minimum money. Comfortable, safe and agile, fresh and appealing with two doors, large luggage compartment and plenty of space. Advance sales of the Fox start immediately.
