New Aston Martin Vantage AMR and mighty V8 Vantage Le Mans ...

On the eve of the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Aston Martin Racing have introduced the Vantage AMR. Limited to just 200 examples, it is a more hardcore version of Aston Martin's entry level model. It features a re-engineered chassis with vital input from former Lotus chassis guru and Aston Martin's new chief engineer Matt Becker. While the engine is identical to the 'regular' Vantage, the AMR crucially features a seven-speed manual gearbox. This is equipped with the AMSHIFT system that mimics heel-toe downshifts. Of the 200 Vantage AMRs built, 59 have been set aside to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin's Le Mans win in 1959. They are instantly recognisable courtesy of the Stirling Green livery with Lime exterior.
In 1999, Aston Martin also celebrated the anniversary of the Le Mans win with a limited edition model. Appropriate for the 40th anniversary, Aston Martin built only 40 examples of the V8 Vantage Le Mans. Most of these were upgraded to the wild 600bhp or V600 version of the mighty supercharged V8 engine. One of these is the featured example, which will cross the block later this month in the RM Sotheby's Villa Erba sale. No estimate has been given yet but we reckon the highly original, 11,000 km example will not be cheap.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

The previous V12 Vantage probably had the same gearbox, a 7 speed manual with a dog-leg first. But suddenly with this I just realised that this arrangement for a 7-speed manual gearbox makes a lot of sense.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.
