I generally go for Bratwurst these days which come pre boiled and require just 10 minutes under a grill (or in a grill pan). My 4 year old son however occasionally wants frankfurters and we simmer them in a pan because microwaving eight out of ten times makes them split open, then he wont eat them.

I don't do doggies either, much prefer to pan fry a real snausage. My earlier post was all about the cocktail franks.

I cook them in beer and sauerkraut. Then in a separate pan cook up sauerkraut and bacon for a topping. Serve on toasted bun with fresh ground mustard.

I grill them and use the grill all year long--despite our winters. Things grilled outdoors in winter taste amazing!

I pan fry them w/ a thin layer of butter. I prefer boiled but frying them in quicker and easier

Nah, just added together how I've seen other people cook them. Is that a popular Wisconsin thing?

Neither. Gotta grille 'em, burnt weenies are the best. Deep fried splitters are good, too... just not for yer heart.

If I had to choose here I'd say boil. If I had to do it myself I'd put a dog on the barby.
