Today, we have taken a closer look at four single seater racers that competed in Formula 1 and Formula 2. The most successful Grand Prix car of the quartet is the Lotus 77 Cosworth. Built for the 1976 season, it was a much belated replacement for the World Championship winning Type 72, which had been first raced during the 1970 season. With the Type 77 Mario Andretti won the first Grand Prix for Team Lotus since 1974. All three chassis have competed in historic racing during the last couple of years and are featured in detail.
Of a slightly later vintage is the Theodore TR1 that was designed by Ron Tauranac for Teddy Yip. A wholly conventional machine, it scored a single victory when Keke Rosberg won the International Trophy at Silverstone in the featured example.
During the 1992 season, the BMS Scuderia team fielded this Ferrari-engined Dallara F192. It was driven by JJ Lehto and Pierluigi Martini. Two six place finishes for the latter were the best results for the final Dallara F1 car raced under the company's own name.
Another Tauranac designed car is the Brabham BT36 that was raced in the 1971 European Formula 2 Championship. It was an evolution of the BT30 and was raced to second in the championship by Carlos Reutemann. The featured example was the third built and it was campaigned in period by a German gentleman racer.
