Correct, you can't.
It was a ground setup on black velvet, so all the pens (26 of them) are lain out in position to make it appear as if they are really falling. It shows me that I've done a good job when people can't guess how.
This is a VERY rough diagram of the setup, unfortunately I forgot to photograph the setup. I also have my 580 EX II aimed at the reflector but it made the diagram too messy so I left that out in the drawing.
