It would be hard t say, not trying to be a smart ass here but the best way to find out would be to ask the owner of a 512M.

I'd have thought it would be rather expensive in terms of serviceing, tyres, brakes, clutch etc, not to mention that Ferraris of that era aren't exactly held in high regard for their reliability.

Evo's "long-term" 1998 550 was used as an "everyday" car and over 18 months & 30,000 miles cost just over £8000 in servicing and repairs, and a further £2300 on consumables - mostly tyres (~6000 miles per set). ($18,800 total) That doesn't include fuel though.

So that's £575/ $1050 per month on average, not including the expense of a new gearbox, which was covered under an extended warranty.

It also took a £12,000 depreciation in that time, from £60,000 to £48,000.

How reliable any used car will be is anyone's guess, really. How reliable is a used high-powered exotic? Generally speaking, I'd say less reliable than the worst economy car you could buy. But I've also heard that many exotics are troublesome because they aren't run on a regular basis. So, if you get the 512 to the point where it's running well and then use it regularly, it shouldn't be a complete nightmare to operate daily...

Anyone who considers using a cramped, low-slung exotic every day needs a reality/mentality check.

They're not really economical (Autocar pulled a max. of 18mpg out of a 512M) , they have no boot to speak of, 2 seats, vandalism and theft magnet, depreciation from high-mileage cars is huge...

I was born in London, and I remember gas being ALOT higher than the U.S. However I also remember that prices don't jump as dramatically as U.S. fuel it stays high.
