    Late 80s supercar shootout

Saw this in a magazine once as a kid, always stuck in my mind since.

    Here are the contenders:

    Ferrari F40:

    357 kW
    577 Nm
    3.0l twin turbo V8
    1100 kg

    Porsche 959:

    335 kW
    500 Nm
    2.8l twin turbo flat 6
    1450 kg

    Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary:

    340 kW
    501 Nm
    5.2l V12
    1494 kg

The magazine had an Esprit thrown in as well. Call me biased, but I think it was a bit in over it's head, so I replaced it with the Corvette ZR1:

    302 kW
    522 Nm
    5.7l V8
    1590 kq

love the looks of the ferrari but its unreliable and how often can you drive it if you get it to run? i opted for the 959! besides its awd system was revolutionary!

I predict this will probably turn out to be an F40 landslide, though me? I went with the Lambo.

Maybe not the fastest, the prettiest, the most reliable or the most economical, but it definitely has the biggest set of gonads of any car ever made.

Has to be the Lambo. It's got looks, looks, and more looks. Plus, in Cannonball Run, the hottest chicks drove the Lambo. Kinda partial to that.

I wouldn't invite the Vette to this party... Not that I dislike it, but it just wouldn't stand a chance.

    F40 for me.

The Lambo is kinda the most famous, with the F40 right behind it...

I think it's up there, but I'd say there's a bigger set of nuts is on the 68/69 Hemi Charger - American muscle just is more aggressive and masculine I think.

That being said, I would rate the Countach as the ballsiest European car.

The fact is the 997 Turbo is a better 959, the LP640 is a better Countach and the Z06 is a better ZR1, the F40 is a landmark car and there will never be another car quite like it.

Is it better than an F50 or Enzo though?

I dunno really, it sure looks better to me though.

For the purists, the F50 and Enzo are V12s, and naturally aspirated.

Not better, different. The F40 was only the third turbo charged road Ferrari and was only slightly modified to be a successful racecar. The F50 and the Enzo are wonderfully sorted out cars, but are both V12s and neither was ever really raced.

What is the other turbo street Ferrari other than the 288?

Was the F40 really successful in racing?

I don't mean to be picky but the ZR-1 was a 90's car, if i remember correctly.

Regardless, in this era you've got to be the most outlandish car you can be. and that has to be the Pagani-fiddled Countach Anniversary (with the wing). Just....want....

Um, I have never heard of any unreliability stories on the F40. We have several owners on FChat who regularly drive their's & have zero complaints with their purchase.

It did a bit of Le Mans and GT racing.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.
