    This forum is dying

As the title says, the forum is slowly deteriorating and will eventually die. I stopped posting and checking in as often because it's become a bit.. well, boring.

What are we going to do about it?

and don't start self fulfilling threads like this one.........

I haven't really been regular enough throughout the years to be aware of any quality issues. I have noticed that we sort of rotate through members, and have seen that many old timers have been absent for quite some time. New faces are always welcome though. Whatever happened with Quiggs, Asif, Sam etc etc?
Regardless, its like coolieman says, I'll be here till the bittersweet end. I love this place, and I'll support for as long as its up. Whether the topics are intelligent or not, I contribute when I have something to say that probably nobody cares about, but its become an online home here. I like the company . Don't give up on it Damian.

We ebb, we flow, we up, we down.. we have less regulars than past times but we have enough to ensure there's no end in sight.

This isn't self fulfilling, it's just that the number of postings on this site has gone down dramatically. I look at the new posts and:

75% are multimedia related - New cars, hide-out, old cars, etc. Multimedia is great, but forum discussion is at a minimum in most of these threads.

10% are old threads like 'Funny Jokes', 'Recent Purchases', and 'Today I Saw A..'

The rest of the forum activity is business as usual, but slower-paced and less interesting. I don't mean to bash the boards but I find fewer reasons to frequent the forums/site because the discussion has slowed down so much.

Henk, you're insight and forum etiquette are all well and good, but there should be a balance where this forum remains an enjoyable place to go to. I'm not asking for internet memes, idiocy, and miscellaneous ramblings.. just some refreshing threads that bring in more members and opinions.

This forum will never die, because of the close link to the main "ultimatecarpage" site.
I support what Henk4 says, as that would make it more interesting to join.
Im a member at Ten-Tenths forum, which is high in it's news and info, as many of the participants (in the Sportscar sub forum) are people with contacts close to that world. If you want Ultimatecarpage forum to become "new and better" i would suggest that all non-car related stuff got turned down to a minimum so it's more appealing for "professionals" to post relevant info at the site.

    I'm not leaving.

I noticed the forum is slower, but it doesn't really lack in content compared to a year ago I'd say.
Possibly bogs like autoblog.com, jalopnik and others are stealing some people from here and other proper forums, offering quick discussions and plenty of topics generated by someone else.
Personally, even as a very, extremely, and irrelevant small blogger, I prefer forums. If Wouter one day will write an awful article on a car, we could all tell him it is so, and he would answer, or ban us. Regardless, in such blogs and similar sites, many times the articles are poorly written, subjective and even with wrongs facts. No matter what you say on the comments, the "journalist" won't come back to check it's article and improve the place.

UCP is still a massive and important place on the web, full of info, bazillions of images (which is why I came here in first place a lot of years ago, before of joining the forum). Less people for usre, just yesterday I was thinking about Rocke and CMC not posting regularly if not at all, while early this year (or was it last year?) we kinda lost Fiset. We gained Rob on the other hand, csl177, Commodore GS/E, the Ozlanders are still a large community and so on.

Plus, the sites is healthier than ever, lots of articles and reviews from various events (something a few websites have). If I wanted just to know which car just debuted I'd just go to netcarshow or one of those huge blogs (oxymoron).

I'm assuming Rocke, you're talknig about the "forum" and not the full site, so will respond on that.

    That's LIFE

Have you noticed that you have some friends who were quite close but now you've drifted apart ?

Yep, we all reach points where we've "shared and experienced" what our subconscious needs and then we will naturally drift away from those connections.

Some of us die-hards may be similar to me and deep down I strive for "new insight" on old concepts and in cars no different. Thus where else could I be intrigued by - and even my opinion be sought - on what size of landau bar to fit to a restored limo top ?

and again, my inquisitive side on motor history revels in every "whats this car" posted.

Finally, I was raised with a social conscience which inspires me to share my fortune ( sorry guys only KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE -- you're getting none of my cash ! ) with others. Thus am happy to provide one input to discussions/questions/debates in the hope of increasing the communities knowledge. AND if along the way it inspires someone to get a better car, or start rallying or racing or even just spannering then that's one "win" in the world down to UCP forum And that's a big stroke on my SuperEgo ( for those who study Freud )

A forum is only as good as the content created by it's users.

So get out there to the car shows in your area, meet like minded crazies, and post results!

I think that the forum may have slowed a bit, but the quality has gone up from years ago. There's a important number of very good members which contribute with well thought and well written opinions. And I think that this is far more enjoyable than lots of irrelevant and useless posts.

    I completely agree.

When I joined in 2004 the forum was much busier, but with many more "low post count" members, or members who join to ask a specific question and then disappear. Now the post volume is significantly lower, but most posts are made by a small nucleus of senior members who (usually) have something useful to say.

I do wish the volume was a little higher, because as Damian said, it gets a bit boring checking in every 2-3 days and there's only a handful of new posts, but what are you going to do?

I'm no regular contributor, but I enjoy this forum as much as anyone else so I would be hesitant to say its dying, but I can certainly say that at least in my case, I'm finishing up another year at college, trying to find a second job, and looking for a race car, and I don't have much time to check out UCP; as much as I'd love to...
