Corvette in an Italian suit, new Saleen and RUF and Nissan's first electric vehicle

A few days ago, the SV 9 Competizione was first shown in public. Built by San Francisco based SV Motor Company, the new two-seater coupe combines American brawl with a designer suit. It is based on a C6 Corvette and features a custom carbon fiber body. The bespoke styling is clearly influenced by the Italian Grand Tourers. With its lightweight body and improved engine output, the SV 9 also promises better performance figures compared to the Corvette it is based on. Only 1,000 examples are planned to be produced and with numerous color, trim and wheel options it is unlikely that any two of them will be alike. The 450 bhp SV 9 Competizione will be officially launched at the Concorso Italiano car show, which is part of the packed Monterey Motoring week.
German Porsche tuner RUF have revealed the first pictures of the RT 12 S. Based on the current 911 Turbo, the new RUF features a 685 bhp version of the twin-turbo flat-6 engine. It can be delivered with a choice of two- and four-wheel drive. Like most RUFs, the RT 12 S also sports subtle styling tweaks.
At the recent 'Mustang Week' event organized by the SVT Owners Association Saleen launched their very first product based on the heavily revised 2010 Mustang. Using the V8-engined GT model as a base, the American specialists have created the 435S. As the name suggests the Saleen features a supercharged engine that produces a hefty 435 bhp. The car also boasts modified suspension and restyled exterior.
At a big event yesterday Nissan took the wraps of their very first all-electric vehicle. Dubbed the Leaf, it opens a new 'green' chapter for the Japanese vehicles. Unlike most other 'green' vehicles, the Leaf is exclusively powered by electricity. The batteries stored under the floor are potent enough to give the Nissan a range of over 160 km, which is big enough for the daily commute. The Leaf is set to hit the global streets towards the end of next year.

I really like the SV 9. I think it came together quite nicely. It'll make for a very unique car. Italians have such a knack for designing beautiful things.

thats funny... i thought it looked like a mediocre kit car. not good at all. the nose is terrible, the rear doesnt match the rest of the car, and even the logos on the gauges just look like stickers over the corvette emblems.

Its exaggerated, like an Italian sports car should be. You can tell straight away that a big influence for this car was the Ferrari 599. If you look at the overall lines. The headlights, and the front bumper even, aside from that middle air duct its got going on there. Looking from the back, I also see a bit of Alfa 8C. I don't think this looks bad at all, really. That said, I don't see this being a car that people will remember. It'll make a great conversation starter, and an interesting collectible. Nothing to really write home about though.

I'm trying to like the SV. I love Italian design, but it still looks too much like a stylized Vette for me. I definitely see the 599 and 8C influences in there, but there's not enough going on to set it apart as a unique design.

Thanks for the new SV and the new Chevrolet Corvette GT2 machine for the ALMS.

Will there be a report on the recent Le Mans Series race?
Should Comcast, which is buying NBC, have more motorsports coverage on VERSUS and now NBC? Does North America need a racing tv channel? Find the answer to that exact question on facebook.

We could not make it out there unfortunately. We will cover the final two races of the Le Mans Series.
